We are seeking a new country coordinator for South Africa Johannesburg (unpaid/volunteer), as we scale our initiatives in South Africa. You’ll collaborate closely with our current country coordinator South Africa Cape Town, leading the country team. Being a Country Coordinator at PUM

In this role, you will have your own responsibilities but will also have to join forces. It is therefore important that you are a team player. Besides two country coordinators, the country team of South Africa consists of 5 representatives and two project officers.

As a country coordinator at PUM, your role as a people manager is pivotal. You’re not merely coordinating; you’re orchestrating positive change. By implementing PUM’s strategy in your region in South Africa, you spearhead impactful projects that contribute to sustainable growth in SMEs.

What being a country coordinator will look like? You’ll be actively engaged with PUM, averaging 16 to 24 hours a week, often spread across multiple days. This includes regularly checking and responding to emails, addressing any urgent matters that may arise. Your responsibilities include:

  • Building and managing an effective team of representatives responsible for bringing in clients and projects.

  • Assessing client requests in your region together with the sector coordinator.

  • Providing guidance and leadership to your country team, which consists of the project officer based in the Netherlands and representatives located in South Africa.

  • Jointly implementing PUM’s strategy and policies in South Africa.

  • Cultivating fruitful relationships with PUM clients and networking with external stakeholders to strengthen ecosystems around PUM clients.

  • Jointly crafting and executing the Country Impact Plan for South Africa.

  • Ensuring strong working relationships with sectors, other PUM countries, and internal PUM departments.


The Details of the Country Coordinator Role

The country coordinator role is a volunteer position with a small expense allowance. We prefer individuals committed for up to 4 years. Prescreening is part of the selection process. Anticipate traveling to South Africa two to three times a year. At PUM, we celebrate diversity and inclusion as essential pillars of our organization. Who are you

  • You are a people manager with strong intercultural sensitivity and proven experience in building and managing international commercial teams.

  • You have experience in coaching diverse teams, fostering collaboration, and achieving results.

  • You are an authentic, resilient, humble, and dynamic professional with an in-depth understanding of the culture and customs in South Africa.

  • You have knowledge and experience in the operation of businesses, especially SMEs.

  • You are eager to navigate various development opportunities within South Africa.

  • You have excellent command of English.

  • You reside in the Netherlands or South Africa.

  • You are very comfortable with digital tools, including Microsoft 365.
