Le Futur est Féminin: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Senegal’s Food Sector
PUM expert Yolanda Ulenaers recently partnered with Unafres, an inspiring organization representing over 5,000 women entrepreneurs in Senegal’s food sector. Unafres supports women across diverse roles, from running restaurants and catering services to processing local products like millet and fruit juices.
During her visit, Yolanda joined Unafres’ national chairwoman to tour member businesses in Thiès, Tivaouane, Touba, Diourbel, and Dakar, engaging with 45 members. The week culminated in two days of training in Thiès, where 20 women participated enthusiastically. The sessions focused on essential management skills and problem-solving strategies, equipping participants with practical tools to strengthen their businesses.
In addition to the training, Yolanda held discussions with partner organisations, including the Chambre de Métiers and the Office National de la Formation Professionnelle. These meetings underscored Unafres’ growing influence and emphasised the importance of formal registration, professionalisation, and access to tools and equipment to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Future Collaboration and Growth
Unafres plays a vital role in the entrepreneurship and the economic empowerment for thousands of women in Senegal. Members are eager about the partnership with PUM, appreciating the exchange of knowledge and expertise. PUM is committed to supporting Unafres in achieving its ambitions, including expanding its network, increasing visibility, and fostering partnerships with stakeholders.
This collaboration represents an important step toward a brighter future for Unafres and the resilient women driving Senegal’s food sector forward.
