Press Release PUM returns to Egypt: A new era of sustainable growth for SMEs

“Egyptian entrepreneurs are a driving force behind our nation’s economic progress. By working together with PUM, we are unlocking opportunities for sustainable business growth, job creation, and stronger communities. This partnership strengthens SMEs with expertise, networks, and innovation – creating lasting impact in Egypt and beyond.” – Peter Mollema, ambassador for the Netherlands in Egypt.

With these words, the vast potential for local SMEs to grow and innovate through collaboration with PUM were highlighted. By sharing knowledge and experience and by fostering connections, PUM experts can contribute to the empowerment of Egyptian businesses and build a structurally better future for their communities; socially, ecologically and economically.

After a period of transition, PUM proudly renewed its commitment to Egypt with a vibrant event at the Dutch Embassy in Zamalek, Cairo, on 20 February 2025. The attendees were warmly received by Ernesto Braam, Head of Economic Affairs at the Embassy. The gathering brought together entrepreneurs, business leaders and changemakers, eager to work together with PUM and to explore new avenues for sustainable business success. As a starting point in the renewed collaboration, the first projects with Egyptian SMEs were agreed upon and the contracts were signed during a festive ceremony.

Stronger together

“I am proud to stand here with both our long-standing partners and new clients,” said Peter Bongaerts, COO of PUM. “This moment is about more than reconnecting – it’s about future possibilities. I am impressed by the fresh mindset and ambitious drive of Egyptian entrepreneurs. Together with these entrepreneurs, we are eager to build sustainable businesses, strengthen industries and foster valuable trade connections with the Netherlands.”

A powerful partnership for growth

Johan de Visser, PUM’s Regional Manager for Africa, introduced the newly appointed Egyptian PUM representatives and country manager, reinforcing the organisation’s dedication to SME development. “It is wonderful to see that we experience such a warm welcome by the Egyptian business community, as well as at universities and other involved organisations.”

Dr Mohamed Youssef, Executive Director of the Egyptian Businessmen Association, elaborated on his request last year for PUM to return to Egypt, as so many companies have had good experiences with PUM in the past. He underlined the willingness of the Egyptian business community to work together with PUM to reap the enormous potential of Egyptian SMEs.

The event concluded with a dynamic networking session, where participants exchanged ideas, explored opportunities, and engaged with PUM experts to discuss future projects.

PUM. Together we grow.
